Choosing a location for your shoot can be tricky with so many beautiful places in the world. You can stay close to home or venture somewhere new. This guide highlights what happens in many Northern Utah locations.

December – March

Cold and snowy, especially in the mountains. Snow can be magical, but many spots are brown and bare. Southern Utah and Antelope Island get little to no snow. For a cozy option, consider an indoor studio session.

April

Blooming trees and spring bulbs like tulips—not wildflowers. Mountains may still have snow.

May

Greenery arrives mid-month. Lower canyon snow melts, temps warm, and yellow wildflowers bloom by month’s end.

June

Lush greens with poppies early in the month, followed by blue, purple, and yellow wildflowers.

July

Peak mountain wildflower season as higher elevations melt out. Lower locations stay green.

August

Green early in the month, shifting to brown by late summer. Fewer wildflowers. Wildfire smoke is possible.

September

Greens fade, and fall colors usually begin in the last 1–2 weeks—yellow in valleys, reds in higher elevations.

October

Best fall color early in the month. By mid-to-late October, colors fade or leaves fall. Great time for urban-style sessions.

November

Little to no fall color; possible early snow. Ideal for urban spots, Antelope Island, the Salt Flats, or studio sessions.
